Johannes Mehserle announced the verdict Thursday, the convicted former officer in the San Francsico Bay Area Transit of intentional murder, can result in 4-15 year prison sentence.
Former BART officer, Johannes Mehserle, stood trial for the January 2009 shooting death of an unarmed man named Oscar Grant. Oscar Grant, 22, was shot in the back with one bullet from Mehserle's gun while the two struggled on a BART platform. Oscar Grant was face down on the platform when he was shot and killed.
The former BART officer claims he didn't realize he had drawn his firearm, and had intended to taze Grant. On video of the incident, Johannes Mehserle can reportedly be heard saying, "Oh my god!" several times, adding to the evidence he had no intention of shooting Oscar Grant.
A Los Angeles jury heard the case to help ensure fairness impartiality.
